There are two divisions in the competition. Gi and no gi. A gi is the uniform of jiu jitsu. It can be used in the fight to help gain control of your opponent. Then there is no gi and it involves just the technique itself. Tim was up first in gi. He won the first match up by an arm bar and continued his winning streak in every other match earning him first place in gi for his weight division. Next was Chris, I didn't think I would be as nervous as I usually am when he fights, being that striking is not allowed, its just strictly ground game. So obviously the chance of him getting hurt is not there like with a fight but I was still very tense. I just wanted him to do really well even though this was his first time to compete. Once things got under way I was so impressed watching Chris. He seemed to easily dominate every opponent he was paired with. Several match ups later he was also given a metal for first place at gi. Fast forward a few hours later and it was a repeat for no gi for both Chris and Tim. I was absolutely beaming to know that he came in first place in both divisions. He couldn't of done any better and I could not be more proud of him. Now the official count down til his title fight in August begins..27 days to be exact. I have zero doubt that he'll come home with belt and I look forward to being there to cheer him on! :)

First Place!
Yesterday Chris and I (along with Tim, one of the guys he trains with) made our way to Birmingham so they could compete in the Alabama State Jiu Jitsu Tournament. Chris had never competed in one before so we weren't entirely sure what to expect. We arrived at Samford University at about noon. I was immediately thankful that we didn't bring Kal-el like we initially planned on doing. It would of been very tough chasing after him there and even harder for Chris to keep focus. I was completely at ease knowing our boys were in the best of hands with Aunt Shane, Nannie, and Poppa! I really enjoyed being able to fully support Chris without our cute little distraction, although I missed him very much it was nice to have a kid free day with my hubby.
