First Place!

Yesterday Chris and I (along with Tim, one of the guys he trains with) made our way to Birmingham so they could compete in the Alabama State Jiu Jitsu Tournament. Chris had never competed in one before so we weren't entirely sure what to expect. We arrived at Samford University at about noon. I was immediately thankful that we didn't bring Kal-el like we initially planned on doing. It would of been very tough chasing after him there and even harder for Chris to keep focus. I was completely at ease knowing our boys were in the best of hands with Aunt Shane, Nannie, and Poppa! I really enjoyed being able to fully support Chris without our cute little distraction, although I missed him very much it was nice to have a kid free day with my hubby.
There are two divisions in the competition. Gi and no gi. A gi is the uniform of jiu jitsu. It can be used in the fight to help gain control of your opponent. Then there is no gi and it involves just the technique itself. Tim was up first in gi. He won the first match up by an arm bar and continued his winning streak in every other match earning him first place in gi for his weight division. Next was Chris, I didn't think I would be as nervous as I usually am when he fights, being that striking is not allowed, its just strictly ground game. So obviously the chance of him getting hurt is not there like with a fight but I was still very tense. I just wanted him to do really well even though this was his first time to compete. Once things got under way I was so impressed watching Chris. He seemed to easily dominate every opponent he was paired with. Several match ups later he was also given a metal for first place at gi. Fast forward a few hours later and it was a repeat for no gi for both Chris and Tim. I was absolutely beaming to know that he came in first place in both divisions. He couldn't of done any better and I could not be more proud of him. Now the official count down til his title fight in August begins..27 days to be exact. I have zero doubt that he'll come home with belt and I look forward to being there to cheer him on! :)

I'm Turning 28...Again!

Ok ok so I turned 29 today! The very LAST year of my twenties. I remember being in my early twenties (even though I was actually perceptive back then) and thinking 30 was old...well at least old 'ish'. Now that I'm pretty much here I honestly couldn't be happier. I am surrounded by an adoring family that I love whole heartily and would gladly give my last breath to.My husband is my soul mate and best friend. My children have made my life complete and I'm extremely close to all of my extended family. Every day and every year added is another fine opportunity to grow as a human being. I'm big on this...helping others, and personal growth...that's where the balance of life is for me. To be honest I acquired alot of insight early on and at this phase of my life my journey to "know" myself or how to stay in touch with myself as I evolve is very fine tuned. They say that's why so many women enjoy their 30's and 40's.I think I can already check that box off however. So with the task of knowing myself, loving who I am, and making no apologies for being myself I hope this next decade (my 30's as they approach) will be more about serving others..mainly my sweet kiddos. I may not be a "spring chicken" anymore but I have the best things in life to show for it and I truly love this chapter of life. Besides on a more shallow note..Jenny Lopez made her debut when she was 29 and she had an awesome decade of hawtness (sorry Borquez boys I know this is your blog..but Mommy has to be authentic in her thoughts lol) so there is hope for not looking like a worn out soccer mom in my 30's..I think lol . We celebrated my birthday at the glamorous Fiesta Mexicana ;) hee hee..my favorite place to eat..with my favorite people on earth. My sweet family. We had a wonderful time inspite having to leave BEFORE we cut the cake... due to it being karaoke night unbeknownst to us...which would of been a blast had it not been for the tremendous amount of disgusting cigarette smoke! Eww..It didn't even come close to ruining our good time though! Kal-el had a blast, Chris's precious card made me nearly have a breakdown as usual and he got me some yummy smelling perfume I've been wanting and a tasty almond cake from Victorian Tea Room and best of all..my entire family was there to celebrate with us! I even scored TWO birthday cakes this year..Mom and Chris bear both ordered me one! Only Chris's made an appearance at the party since I'm on a major low carb diet and only allowing myself this one little cheat day :) I think Mom is going to freeze the other one..for future cheat days! Logan missed his Mommy's entire partay..he opted to snooze through it..but thats ok because our bunch has lots of informal get togethers..he'll get to enjoy them soon enough. Today was such a happy day...if this is what getting older is all about..I'll take it. Well I'm off to bed on a cake sugar high and thanking God for allowing me another year of cherished life, adventures, and blessings. I hope to see many more so I can be here for the people I love. Look out 29 here I come!

Super and his one track mind LOL ...EAT...CAKE..NOW! :)
Sweet 5 week old baby Logan sleeps :)
Kal-el spots the huge fan in the room!
