ABC's of Eating!

It would appear that Kal-el has taken a small hiatus from eating. Perhaps I'm just more aware of it now than in the past. He's never been a member of the "clean plate club" which is completely fine considering his age but here lately he seems to barely touch anything unless of course its unhealthy items loaded with sugar. I think the  cupcakes for his half birthday as well as the treats supplied on a regular basis by Nannie and Poppa have provided a little upset in his healthy food regimen. He has always loved protein especially chicken but this week he even turned his nose up at baked big bird. I was becoming a little stressed. Food seemed boring and unappetizing to him. Then something changed. Enter Chef Boyardee Mini ABC's & 123's to the rescue!
Since Kal-el is so enthused with the alphabet I decided to attempt to entice him with eating letters. Score Mommy! He gobbles them up like crazy. Now I wont say that sometimes its not a painstakingly slow process what with calling out and separating of the letters and all but good grief its cute! He will eat a few at a time and call out to me what he's eating...."Ummm yummy letter B Mama..tank(thank) you..umm..umm" It's the most adorable thing ever. I know this will only hold his interest for so long but I hope it last long enough to get him through this finicky food stage! Well I'm off to look for sandwich presses, molds, and anything else I can use to make edible letters!

Keeping Up With Kal-el- September

I haven't done one of these in the last couple of months but I really wanted to share some of Super's latest developments!

Here are a few of my very favorite :

-Kal-el has manners!!! Yes you read that correctly and it's precious. The best part is that is uses them without fail. I'm so proud. He definitely talks in sentences now and less like a little cave man! Every morning Chris and I wake up to the same couple of statements from him " Put on Mickey Mouse Puleeze" "More milk mama refill puleeze" "Tank you Mommy" and we almost always get an "I lub you" during the course of the day. <3 <3 <3

- When I was recovering from my c section Kal-el would often hear Chris ask me how I was feeling. I would usually respond with "I'm fine." This really stuck with Kal-el and he says it all the time when I ask him. If he falls he always says "I fine" before he even has a chance to get up!

- He officially knows all his colors and says them correctly!

-He can count to 13...he says "E-LEB-n-n" (11) sooo cute ..sometimes when he gets to 13 he'll tag 60 or 90 on the end just for good measure lol :)

- He can recognize at least 95% of the alphabet , only occasionally getting things like 'w' and 'm' confused. I'm pretty proud of my smart cookie. He literally learned the letters in one day! He will even line the letters up and after the letter "K" always says to himself "I'm fine" associating it with the question. Umm how smart ,yet neurotically cute, is that?! MY child :)

-He also calls out the letters on signs and billboards. He loves when two of the same letters are next to each other. ex: Wheel "Look Mommy TWO letter E's " It tickles him :)

- He is a truly awesome big brother to Logan. When he hears him crying and they aren't in the same room he always calls out "I'm coming Logee, I'm coming!" He's even started to give him the bottle.

- He is still very much in love with "Sponge Pants" I try to limit it because it has zero educational value but he adores Sponge Bob. Luickly Disney's Cars has also crept in the mix this month and he still likes all of his old favorites like Mickey's clubhouse, Superwhy and Oso!

- When Chris is at work Kal-el always asks to watch train shows like Chuggingtons or Thomas the Train. So sweet. He's still a daddys boy and misses him so much the days he's gone. Without fail at every single train crossing we come upon he always waves and says "Hi Daddy's train"

- Super has become even more independent if that were even possible. He is also a bit bossy. He has preferences and likes to attempt to delegate which tasks Chris or myself complete for him. lol ex: He prefers that I get his milk but insists his Daddy change the channels to his cartoons of choice. When his agenda is not meet and heaven help if we change those roles because control freak has a melt down. I feel like I'm raising myself here :)

- He is still extremely loving and sweet. That being said I have caught him on more than one occasion deliberately wiping off my kisses.

- The one thing that annoys him the absolute MOST right now is for anyone to sing..especially me (granted I am tone deaf) He is the ONLY person allowed to sing or dance in this house. I thought I had many more years to go before he views me as completely uncool! I promise to try and video him falling apart when I sing. It's the funniest thing ever. He goes from happy to hysterial drama king in about 3 seconds flat.

- He's going through a bit of a picky phase with his eating. I found a solution for this week..post to follow :)

- We are still trying to get potty training down. Not always easy with a boy but we'll get there!

- He LOVES getting dressed now. He even knows how to match up his attire and is simple crazy about shoes.

-He feeds Ginger every single day. We put her food in a little cup and he will take it over to her dog dish in the crate, open it to let her in, and the close and lock it behind her saying " There you go Ginger!"

- He is super attached to Pluto. I don't think he'll ever give him up. I had to finally wash him this week. I thought Kal-el would really enjoy helping me put him in the wash and adding washing powder etc. Well I was wrong. He loved it at first then he realised that the lid was locked and his yellow pup was spinning around and not coming out. He stood at the washer for 15 min crying "I LUB YOU PLUTO, I'M COMMING PLUTO!" So dramatic :) Next time I'll wash him at nap time!

- Speaking of which, Kal-el has started to skip his daytime nap about twice a week. It's really random and he doesn't seem overly tired on the days that he does miss it. We'll just have to see if this trend continues.

I think this covers most of September's developments. Can't wait to see what next month has in store for my first super hero. Love you, Kal-el xoxo!!!

Summer Friend

Almost every evening this summer Kal-el had a cute little green visitor to wish him a good night. Even though summer is not exactly my favorite time of year (I'm much more of a cozy fall, festive winter kind of girl) there seems to always be little things in the summer that I think so fondly of. Our summer was sort of uneventful in terms of new adventures. We were confined more days then not to being inside our home because of our sweet new family member who was much to young for the scorching, relentless heat this year. I know next summer will be filled with excitement again. Lots of swimming, vacation time etc. I look forward to it but I wont ever forget the small things that made this summer so special.  Kal-el loves frogs and this summer we had an adorable little tree frog that made his way to our porch almost every night. Super would always talk to the little frog on his way to bed and smile sweetly at the frog and say "night froggie:" :) Now that it's getting cool in the evenings we haven't seen him in the last week. I'm sure he's hopped on to warmer climates but Kal-el still looks for him sometimes. I always tell Kal-el he hopped home. Maybe he'll come back next year and bring some friends. Since my son loves them so much they are always welcome...OUTSIDE the house :)

Happy HALF Birthday Super!

I can't believe my baby is 2 and a half years old. It doesn't seem like it's been 6 months since his Mickey Mouse extravaganza   party  where I  was 6 months pregnant, huge and exhausted running around planning and getting everything together.  Now here he is officially 2.5 today! Half birthdays are such a nice contrast from the big official birthday parties I throw on real birthdays. It's just our immediate family and a sweet treat and toy for the Half-er :)
Kal-el and I got up early this morning and went to Wal-mart for him to pick out a new toy. He of course chose a Lightening McQueen car. He's really really on a Disney's Cars kick right now. Although I love most all things Disney, Cars is really just not my favorite. But It's not my half birthday lol :) On our way back home I stopped at Yummies for him to pick out a cupcake. Kal-el is doing great with his counting. He's up to 13 now. I tried to purchase just one cupcake for him since I'm dieting, Chris Bear is out of town and not due back until tonight, and I knew Super would probably only be able to finish off one in its entirety..not that he needed more. Wellll that didn't go exactly as planned. "Kal-el do you want a cupcake?" ....."No Momma two cupcake..three cupcake...four Kal-el eat 4 cupcake." How many do you think I ended up leaving with? If you said four you guessed right that my spoiled child won :)
If anyone ever asked me before I had kids would I ever celebrate half birthdays I probably would of given what I thought was an enlightened answer that sounded something ...absolutely not ..thats the most self serving and over indulgent thing I've ever heard of. I would foolishly presume that would ruin a child or in some weird way cause them to be shallow and attention seeking. I see it so differently now. Children are such a blessing and childhood goes by way too fast. Nothing is ever silly or a waste of time if its done in the name of love and building memories. Most importantly its fun! We had a fabulous day today. The next time we have cake for Kal-el he will be turning 3! I better start planing now...I just kind of hope he's over Cars by then. But if not a cars party it is ;) Happy Half sweet baby boy. We love you!
2 of the 4 banana pudding cupcakes :)
