Mother's Day Weekend-2010
"A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie."
I love this simple, endearing quote. It is so telling of the selflessness in a mother's heart. I have always been so close to my mother. We have shared an unbreakable bond over the years. She is my best friend. Now that I am also a mother, this holiday has even more of a special meaning to me. The dynamtic of being both child and parent is beautiful to me. I fall more and more in love with this child of mine everyday. I love reliving the world and my own childhood through his eyes. I really don't know what I ever did before I became a Mommy. It has always been a part of who I am long before I ever conceived Kal-el.
I owe being the person I am today to my mother. She has always allowed me to be true to myself with no apologies. I am forever indebted to her for this aspect of my upbringing. She is the reason that I have the strength and confidence that reside within me. Throughout my entire life she has been my best friend and my number one fan. Growing up I was very often misunderstood esp as I got a little older largely in part to my apperance. Individuals that did not bother to get to know me usually made one of two assumptions. I was either promiscuous or pretentious. Neither of these could of been farther from the truth. I learned very early on to keep my circle very tight and not to let others jealousy or insecurities compromise who I am by trying to prove something to them or change who I was to make them more at ease. It never bothered me in the least when I would hear comments like" Lauren always hangs out with her Mom". I would rather of been with her then out partying or doing so called "normal" teenage acts. I didn't need those things. Inspite some of the struggles that I have had with people I have a genuine love for man kind. She was able to raise me with the perfect balance of strength and compassion. I love her so much. I only hope that I'm able to guide Kal-el in this same direction as he gets older.
Now that I am a mother myself I see everything in life with a slightly different perspective. My convictions are still the same but my vantage point is totally altered in the sence that I weigh every single decision both great and small on how it will affect the greatest gift God has ever blessed me with..Kal-el. He is first. Everything that I ever thought was important if life and still cherish pales in comparison to him. I want to always be the best I can be for him and I know that there will be many times that I won't make the perfect or even the best decision but we will grow and learn together. One thing is for sure. He will never once question the love I have for him because I will always make showing him how much I love him my greatest priority. I'm so greatful for the support system I have in my husband. I know I could not be the mother that I am without him by my side. His love for us is unwavering, almost a rarity in todays times. I am also so thankful that Super gets to grow up so close to Mimsy because he can see first hand what a great Mommy that his Mommy has.
We had a wonderful fun filled Mother's Day weekend. I woke up to two of the sweetest cards from the boys in my life and some new cozy pj's. I gave Mimsy her card and gifts and we headed out for church followed my lunch with Nannie and Poppa. Then it was back to their place where we enjoyed some laughter and family time. My idea of a perfect evening. To end this day off right Mom and I are now about to do some bakeing. What's on the menu? Stawberry Shortcake :) Happy Mother's Day. God bless!
and had a little cry about my precious cards
