We love diversity at the Borquez house. To me its one of the most beautiful aspects of the human race. For those that aren't aware our sweet baby boy is the epitome of diversity. He is multiracial : Caucasian, African American, Native American, Hispanic, Italian, and a little French Canadian. To me he represents the face of the world. I feel so privilaged to be his mother because I know he is so unique and special. This month's book selection is entitled "Whoever You Are" and it encourages children to embrace cultual, social, and racial varities in the world around us. Our hope for Kal-el is that he always remains open minded and respectful even if others beliefs and way of life is very different from his own. I will make sure that I instill a compassionate, educational mind set in my children. Its mind blowing how many sterotypes still exsist in today's society. Its just as unfortunate to see children raised in a "bubble" as it is to rear children in an outwardly rasict fashion. How sad, as well as intellectually cripling to an otherwise non biased innocent child. If we are being very honest here I was brought up very blessed and in a good home as I got older it soon became apperant that I could of been someones trophy wife ten thousand times over but I would have not been true to myself sitting around eating $12 salads for lunch everday, having mindless conversations about others, being less than loyal in my marriage, judgeing others , being so self indulgent that I forgot some are suffering or lastly franting over which custom curtains best matched my hideous, common looking yet over priced furniture. To me that life would have been bland, mentally unstimulating, and more average than the sadly mistaken individuals who live it realise. I would of sold out. Given up my identity. A death sentence for someone as strong willed and secure as I have grown to be. Broaden your minds and learn that we are all the same on a basic human level. We laugh the same, we hurt the same, we love the same. God himself made sure of this. In the areas that we do differ and cultural differences are in abundance, step outside the box you've trapped yourself in and learn to appreciate those differences. No one is saying you have to adopt another persons beliefs and convictions but at the very least respect them instead of sitting around jeering and laughing at differences in others. Not only does this make YOU look ignorant, shallow, and uneducated but it sets a horrible example for future generations. The layers that some have piled on as a charade to appear privilaged are easily seen through and their uglyiness and insecurities come seething through. It would be in these individuals best interest to become a little more progressive and change their backwards mind set fast, as the world is evolving and they will need to eventual catch up or simply die out. Obviously this month's book selection has really struck a nerve. The most important message that I can pass along to my son is this. Your Mommy may not be perfect but she is very real, very strong, and very sure of what she wants and loves in this life. You were chosen little one. There were many alternative chocies that could of been made and according to the unsolicited advice of morons maybe should of been. They, however, don't exist to me.You are the essence of what I love in life and you are the future of this world and most importantly you are loved by your dedicated parents and the rest of your family beyond measure.
