Holy Monster'mony Set Up!

I'm just going to go ahead and call this my favorite shoot without batting an eye. I dont know where to start but I'm blown away that this all came together like I envisioned. Danielle really out did herself capturing this one! Its so strange but Halloween is becoming more and more of a holiday that I really enjoy. I think a lot of it has to do with having kids and the whole dress up and pretend play element. Theres nothing pretentious about it.  As much as I enjoy it I really had not planned on doing a goolish setup this year. Then Pottery Barn emailed asking what items I would like to use from their look book. After I picked my jaw up off the floor I decided on a theme. I always pride myself of original themes. I wanted to use traditional elements of Halloween but give it a twist. It came to me practically overnight and I fell in love with the idea of a wedding for Frankenstein and his bride. Halloween and wedding styled elements together...in holy Monster'mony! The model choices for this were the easiest casting decision ever! Kal-El is so over the top dramatic with such prominent features I knew that his face could carry the makeup as well as embody the character personality wise. He just so happens to be mine but he was a natural. Charlee, Charlee, Charlee, I've been waiting for the perfect shoot for her and man was this it. She is so stunning and has such a natural confident presence I knew she could carry the look of a serious, beautiful, somber bride. These two were the stars of the show and even more natural then I could of ever imagined. A little demanding at times, but we expected no less from the little stars ;) This was also the first shoot that Danielle created a video for. I was blown away by it and its become quite popular even before its officially made public. We are both a little giddy over that! I hope everyone enjoys this as much I enjoyed creating this setup. Oh and for Kal-El and Charlee...no pressure on the real wedding one day....no pressure ;)

Hooray For More Publications!

What an awesome week for my little company! Capes & Crowns has been published in print again...twice! EEEK! Two shiny new magazines arrived this week and I'm thrilled with how they both turned out :) I love what I do and I really hope it shows. I cant put into words what huge honor this has been for me. This makes my 4th time in print and my first time in Occasions magazine which is sold and Barnes and Noble and Books a mil. Pinching myself a little over here! It's surreal flipping through the pages and seeing things from my head captured by Danielle's awesomeness on the pages of a real magazine! I can't wait to share the Halloween shoot we are working on with you all! :)

HFM Strikes Again!

Just when I thought Kal-El had managed to NOT contract the lovely virus known as hand, foot, and mouth from Logan, it struck, with a vengeance! Super started getting a low grade Tuesday night. I was out of guards that cover my ear thermometer and it wont pick up a reading without them so Mom came over so I could run to the store and grab some. I was gone maybe 20 mins tops. When I left K's temp was just under 100 when I returned it was 103.5. Makes sense why he had a fever seizure at a young age. Its the spike that causes them NOT how high it gets. Thats a big jump in a very brief time that pretty much means he's DONE with fever seizures bc he certainly would of had one then if he were younger. He was still very out of it so I decided to take him to the ER anyway. In spite of out growing the seizures he still does not tolerate fever well. They literally completely wipe him out completely and when your child ASKS to see a doctor you go :( Poor baby!
Larry, as well as Aunt Vicki and Harold meet us over there. Chris was at work and you know how my family rolls ;) I was seriously grateful that they came bc Super started declining more once we got there. He got really weak from his fever after about an hour of waiting and fell out. He busted his chin on the bench in the front of the ER :( I thought I was going to pass out to. He was fine afterwards and Im just glad it wasnt his head. He got weaker by the second so they came out and gave us fever reducer but once they saw the state he was in they rushed us right back to a bed. His fever broke shortly after we got to a room and he was like a different child and my fears finally subsided. Then the hallmark rash started appearing on his hands and feet just like clock work. Confirmed diagnosis and by this point he was kick boxing the nurse drawer in the ER so we got to come home after about an hour of observation. We got home at about 11:30pm and continued to cycle Motrin and Tylenol through the night. His high fever never returned.
Just when I thought we were over the hump the real fun starts the following night. The rash from hand, foot, and mouth usually does not itch. Well we are not the norm over here we are over achievers apparently because Kal-El itched to the point of not sleeping. No literally. ZERO sleep for either of us for the ENTIRE night. I was already wiped out from the previous night in the ER. My stress and worry was at an all time high :/ I didn't know his body was having a reaction the the virus itself or what but he couldn't have anymore benadryl and it wasnt doing a thing for him. I just watched the clock all night, then watched the sun come up, then loaded him up to go to Dr. Melvins without and appointment and dared anyone to turn as away. They were wonderful as always and took us right back. We only see Dr. Melvin and he couldnt get to the room soon enough. Almost more concerning to me than the reaction to the rash all over my childs feet and body was the fact that the ulcers in the mouth caused my the virus are so painful he wasnt taking in near enough fluids. Dr. Melvin checked out the rash, confirmed the diagnosis, prescribed a stronger antihistamine, and along with myself had a firm discussion with Super about the fact that he HAD to drink fluid or he would be right back in the office in 24 hrs..then on to the hospital for fluids. I know how rough it is..I had the virus when I was pregnant. I'm a grown woman thats been thru 2 c-sections and I promise these ulcers HURT worse. I literally had tears roll down my face when I tried to drink fluid so seeing my child go thru it was almost unbearable but man he'e tough. He managed to get twice the amount required down in a 24 hr period..bc he's superman ;) That meant we didnt have to go back in! Meanwhile his antihistamine didnt quite knock him out as promised. Not that I cared I was just glad to have my vibrant non itching little boy back!
Today is a new day. He is completely fever free and the spots are clearing up slowly but surely. Little Logan is all the way better to. I wish I had of recorded when Super first saw his spots. He could not deal. my favorite quote from this week of sickness makes me laugh everytime I think of it and I'm just so grateful for healthy babies! I'll close off on a funny note :D
Kal-El: I need you to do me a favor and spank that baby (referring to Logan) when he wakes up. He gave me these dang dots. My beautiful beige skin is gone and my life is ruined."
Yep. Mini Me.

My superhero and I at the ER after his fever broke :)
Recouping and getting much needed rest time!
