Nannie's 77 Birthday

It's Birthday time again with our family! Woo hoo. This Saturday it was my grandmothers 77th Birthday. We had a potluck supper to celebrate this special lady's day. My grandmother has always been a huge part of my life. She is like a second Mom to me. I have so many fond memories of her just as I do Poppa. She has been my shopping buddy for as far back as I can remember. She is such a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and the best cook I know! I remember when my cousin Zach and I would spend the weekends with her and she would always get up and cook us her famous breakfast complete with biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon and chocolate gravy. Zach and I used to argue over how we wanted our biscuits cooked. I liked mine browned and he ate his a little raw. So she was always gracious enough to make some both ways. My grandmother has always been such a beautiful woman both inside and out. She is so ladylike and feminine. I wish i could be like her in many ways. There are hardly any women of her kind left these days. She has never worked outside of the home a day in her life but she has always worked hard. She handmade all three of her girls clothing in their school years and made sure that they always had three hot homade meals a day. Just as she is a wonderful Mother she is also such a blessing as a grandmother. I was very sick as a baby. I had febrile seizures and she spent countless, tireless hours worrying beside my mother and helping to take care of me. As I grew healthy and got older she and I remained very close and spent lots of time together. I have memories all the way back to kindergarten on grandparents day. I remember being so proud of what a sweet, lovely Nannie I had. One of the funniest school day memories I have was of being in 6th grade home ec. The week we did sewing I was anxious. i had never sewed before and I wanted my project to be as pretty as something Nannie would make. Weeell as I began sewing my pillow case it was pretty obvious that the only way this pillow case would look like anything like what Nan would sew she would actually have to sew it lol. So I discreetly stuffed the material into my purse and took it home that night so Nannie could sew it for me...I know I know I'm awful. Needless to say when the teacher saw my finished project it was pretty obvious that it wasnt something my nubby little 10 year old hands turned out so I was promptly marched down to the principles office where I received a big fat F for my dishonest evil deed. Fantastic! LOL
Nannie has also been on many road trips with me for photo shoots! We have had so much fun and laughed so hard. These road trips usually consisted of just me, her, and Mom. We would go to Nashville, Birmingham, and Atlanta. Nannie is such a great travel buddy, even at her age she was able to help me so much with directions! She also grew to be so open minded about me modeling in little attire which I'm sure was not an easy adjustment at first. I remember the infamous lollipop shoot. Yes, she was actually there. But it was a closed set b/c the shots were for a magazine. Well, that didnt stop Nannie from trying to take a peep. I glanced over and saw her on all fours pulling up the curtain and telling me which way to pose and what to adjust. Too sweet :)
This March Nannie got to add another title to her resume. Great Grandmother which she is equally as wonderful! She loves Kal-el so much and calls him her baby boy. She helps Chris and I so much by keeping him so during the day when we both are at work. They have a really precious bond and I 'm so happy that we all have each other. All the way from 7 months old to 81. What a blessing! We all were together for Nannie's Birthday which we celebrated at Aunt Shanes house. It was potluck and yes of course I'm about to list the food! Mom made a delicious chicken pot pie. We also had corn salad, fried veggies, Mexican cornbread, cobbler, and Birthday cake and ice cream! Yummo :) Nannie has always loved snowmen and angels. She collects both so we try to always get her something related to one or the other depending on the time of year. Everyone had such a great time. Happy 77th Birthday Nannie!! We love you!!

Fun family weekend!

What a great weekend for the Borquez family! We had no major plans we just played it by ear the whole weekend and enjoyed each others company. Friday night we stayed at home and just relaxed. Chris made some homemade chili which was super yummy. We cuddled with baby boy on the couch and had a tv night. Very relaxing. The following morning Kal-el let us sleep in until 9:30. Woo hoo! Romantic morning for the parents! Just kidding lol TMI! Chris had to be at work shortly after we woke up so Mom and I decided to go shopping with little man. We meet Chris for a late lunch at Olive Garden. Kal-el kept trying to reach over and eat our food and drink our drinks. He LOVES his baby food until he starts eyeing what we're having then his mushy food loses most of its appeal! After we all were stuffed with yummy "Italian" food Chis headed back to work and we drug the man child to the mall. This may be the story of his life lol. Kal-el is such a good little shopping buddy. He didn't even fuss. He loves smiling and laughing at me while I push him around. We shopped and ran a few errands then finally gave in to exhaustion and headed for the house.
Later that night we had family night at the drive in. Chris and I had never been before and we both really enjoyed it! Its kind of a nostalgic feeling from the past. There are only a few drive ins left in the nation. We are pretty lucky to have this one close to home. You get to enjoy two new box office features for the price of less than one! The first one showing was Halloween II. My husband enjoys horrors. Me? eh not so much so during the first feature I was staring at my child, my popcorn, the dashboard, the passing cars, the dark grass, all in an effort to avoid the gore in front of me lol. The second feature I really enjoyed. Brad Pitt stared in it. Chris and I both think he is an awesome actor. We both really like his "wifey" too! It was a neat experience and we will definitely go back before it closes for the winter! Kal-el slept through the second movie he really is such a good baby. By the time both movies ended it was nearly midnight. We headed home to put our already sleeping baby in his crib.
Sunday morning we were all dressed and ready for church. Kal-el wins the award for most fly outfit in the house. Seriously his swagger was off the charts lol..and of course as soon as I pull out my camera to capture his cuteness..you guessed it my camera died! Grrrrrr Then the devil struck again trying to make us late when Kal-el literally out grew his carseat practically over night. Luckily we have a back up big boy car seat that he is now just the right size for. So we were finally able to leave. I snapped a couple of pics with my poor quality cell phone camera for your viewing pleasure though lol. After church we went and ate some fried chicken at Bojangles where you get 10% off if you bring your church bulletin. You have to admit some things about the south are pretty awesome! We ate with Nannie and Poppa and Aunt Shane and Uncle Raymond. We all laughed and had a great time. Chris and i headed home and got in our jammies and had a lazy Sunday afternoon with some movies. Later that evening I got a hot bath and caught up on my reading. I am soooo close to finding out the who the killer is in the Creme Puff Murder lol...I closed the night with the season finale of the Kardashians..My only problem with this weekend? You guessed it..It wasnt nearly long enough!!! :D

On the Move!

Kal-el hit another developmental milestone this week! He is officially a crawler. I should mention a VERY independent crawler who doesn't need or want your help thank you very much! lol We are so proud of him he has worked really hard at crawling, the determined look on his face and the grunting noises he makes trying to position his little arms and legs and move ahead is precious! He gets better at it each day. He is also growing before our very eyes. Chris and I did some fall clothes shopping for him and at 6 month old our little big boy is in a SIZE 12 MONTH! Good grief! He grows out of everything sooo fast but we are not complaining, we are just grateful that we have a healthy growing baby boy! I love walking in his little nursery in the morning before work. Most of the time he is already up and I walk in and "catch" him crawling in his crib and playing with his little toys. Every time he sees me he looks up and smiles and laughs at me from ear to ear. I laugh with him, then I pick him up. He gets so excited when I do this that he shakes his entire body and kicks his legs. I have to brace myself b/c hes already stronger than me lol..sad.. I know :) I guess its officially time to start baby proofing everything in sight!
