Last Weekend of the Summer

Today marks the last weekend of the summer. Fall is right around the corner, even if it doesn't seem that way with the scorching sun bearing down causing temps to remain at an almost unbearable 95 degrees. On one hand this outrageous heat so late in the season suprises me but then again this state is no stranger to these types of summers.  I'm a fall/winter person all the way. I'm more than happy to kiss summer so long until next year when I'm forced to deal with it again. :)
We had a nice relaxing weekend inspite of the extremely warm weather. I've enjoyed Chris's schedule as of late. He is off Friday's and Saturday's for the time being so its nice to spend time together during the day. Friday night Mimsy wanted to watch Super so Chris and I decided to catch a movie. We picked a scary one, which I usually don't like, HOWEVER this one was not cliche and ended up being quite thought provoking.
Saturday morning Chris got up early and decided to go play some paintball with Brian. I hung out with Kal-el and Mimsy. We managed to get some serious shopping done and I must say that I really scored on the Halloween decor. I'm so excited! I get border line OBSESSIVE when it comes to themes and especially holidays. I'm pumped that Super will get to enjoy the festivites this year unlike last year when he was still a bit young to partake in the fun. Chris and I went back to Brian and Shannon's Saturday evening for dinner. The guys were still enjoying shooting each other with paint while Shannon and I played with her girls and chatted on the porch. Shannon is expecting their third little girl any day now. We enjoy spending time with them and I love exposing Chris to a household full of little girls. I need to try to get him used to the idea of a little Lauren. Can't imagine why he thinks that might be trouble ;) In the midst of our girl talk Shannon and I realise that the boys have gotten a little too close to the house with their shooting. As we get up to make our way in the house I felt a little sting but didn't think much of it. Once we were inside Shannon said "Oh wow were you hit?" I mumbled that I didn't think so. We both looked down at the side of my shirt and realised that I had in fact been hit. " Girl your tough" Shannon said. We laughed so hard. I was hit with ORANGE paint the color in my husband's gun. Needless to say he spent the rest of the night apologizing profusely even though I wasn't hurt. I'm tough stuff :) Not only with takeing hits but apparently with poker as well. I played for the first time and won just about everytime after dinner. The funniest part was that the deck of cards had puppies on them so instead of paying attention to the hand I would call out dog names. Chris was so distressed that I was winning this way. "Oh look babe a basset hound ..I'm all in!" Insert eye roll here ;) I got exposed to some new things and we had a great night with very dear friends.
Sunday morning Chris had to report back to work.....with POISON IVY no less. He is allergic to everything it seems and hours spent in the woods rubbing up against poisionous plants caused some major misery for him. He took some benadryl and headed out. My mom and I decided to take Kal-el down to the park and have a little BBQ lunch there. The replica ships of the Nina and Pinta were still docked at Mcfarland so we took a look at them and then headed to the play and picnic area. We played and ate for as long as we could endure the heat and then we were homeward bound. What a great way to close the summer...now come on fall! :)
