And The New Middle Weight Champion is....

The Black Mamba of course :) Chris without a doubt deserved the belt and title. He was less than thrilled with the circumstances surrounding last nights events and so was I. Not because of Chris, because he definitely did his part and I'm extremely proud of him! Basically his opponent failed to show up for weigh ins saying his work schedule prevented him from cutting weight. Really? My husband works...a lot...and is mostly sitting on a train, has obligations at home with a wife and two little people and never once complains about weight cuts. Thats because its a choice to be a fighter. Either you can make the scarifies or you can't. No excuses. After weight ins his opponent was supposed to send a video of himself weighing in before the fight the next day. That didn't happen either. I was afraid at that point he may not show at all. I was NOT happy about being away from my children for a fight that may or may not take place. I was even more upset for Chris because I knew how hard he trained in the weeks leading up to this fight.
Saturday morning we got the kids ready to take to moms to spend the night. My boys have never spent the night away from home. Nope, not even with grandparents. I just miss them so much and really can't stand to be away from them. I knew they would be in good hands and I knew I wanted to be able to give Chris my undivided attention and support so off to grandma's they went :) Once we arrived in Tennessee we headed to the venue so Chris and Tim could attend the fighters meeting and go over rules, take care of paper work etc. Chris's opponent was not there yet. That happens often so not really a issue initially. Fighters are often late and you get some from out of town that drag in last minute.  When 7 oclock (showtime) came and he still had not entered the doors I started to get a bit concerned. The promoters told Chris they had just heard from him a few minutes after that and he was on his way. I was relived for Chris at that point bc I want him to have his fight.  The guy indeed showed up. Showed up obviously no where near 185 pounds. They weighed him since he never bothered to show up for weigh ins nor send any proof that he was within his weigh class. When he stepped on the scales he weighed 206. Yep, ridiculousness! How unprofessional you you possibly be. With a whopping 21 lb advantage he wouldn't be belt eligible but it was still at Chris's desecration whether or not he wanted to take the fight. He took it. Some may not of but Chris did because he did his part. He trained hard and regardless of his opponent basically being in another weight class he agreed to fight.  If that drama wasn't enough to deal with there was about 5 more fights before Chris headed into the ring. When the time finally rolled around I was so ready to get it over with. They checked in with Chris before calling the fighters out to make sure his hands were wrapped and he was ready. He was. They then went to check for Justin (his opponent). Here's where it gets bad. Justin left the building. Ran away. Wimped out. Whatever you want to call. He bailed. He gave no reason for his departure. He didn't have to it was obvious. I was dumbfounded and just could not wrap my head around him not being man enough to approach Chris, Chris's trainers, and especially the promoters and make them aware of the reason. He just ran out the back door like a child. I felt so horrible for Chris. All that training and hard work. Chris received the belt and title by default. He would of been he champion regardless. I'm not saying that because I'm his wife. Even Justin knew it. His actions proved it. Yet he had the audacity to make statements in the locker room that "Chris wouldn't stand up with him...blah blah blah" Its called MMA not boxing. If your ground game is weak and you think a well rounded athlete and fighter is not going to capitalize on your weakness and actually bring their skill set DOWN to your one dimensional level and fight YOUR fight and limit themselves for your lack of ability you should probably go whine elsewhere. Here's an idea if you don't want taken down...learn some descent take down defense and become a well rounded fighter. Not that I think this person should ever have the chance to be on a card again. To show up and then leave is another level of pathetic and complete lack of professionalism. I know there are plenty of professional fighters that want a belt and I know Chris will welcome the opportunity to defend his title. I can't wait to be there to support him while he does it!
I didn't cave and get the kiddos last night while they were sleeping but you better believe I woke up bright and early to retrieve my little men :)
                 Before we left :)
                         Logan pre hair cut!
Post...he's holding his own title belt that Kal-El handed him lol :)
Begging Kal-El to come get in the frame with his Daddy :)
