Turkey, uncles, vampires, and guns!

I love Thanksgiving. It's such a special time of year for the gathering of family and friends, delicious food, the making of new memories, and the beginning of the holiday season! This year I am a mother and I am extra thankful for this new role. Chris and I had a special treat this year. Chris has five brothers from his hometown of Portland Oregon. Brandon, Dustin, and Nick are attending school in Iowa so they made the loong 13 hour drive to come see their nephew for the first time. Chris, Mom, Kal-el and I couldn't not of been happier to have them spend Thanksgiving with us. Hopefully next time all five of them can make the trip. They arrived late Tuesday night and stayed until early Sunday morning. Wednesday, Chris and the boys came in to see me at work. They drove the little smart car around and apparently had a photo shoot with it to! After I got off we all got ready and went over to a spaghetti supper hosted by one of the Chris's fight crew friends. We played pong and had a really great time. I of course had the shot of a lifetime. lolThursday morning is Thanksgiving and by the time it arrived I was officially ready to kill some food. There was entirely too much delicious food and I'm angry with myself for not taking a picture. We ate at Aunt Shanes this year. Her dog Scout is an adorable very lovable little Yorkie but for some strange reason Kal-el freaks out when Scout trots by him. I think it may be b/c he is used to such big dogs at home . After we were all stuffed beyond belief we sat down for a very fun board game called Apples to Apples. Someone *Leah* actually hide the game from me b/c games with our family are always over the top dramatic and someone always ends up not having a clue whats going on. Lucky Lea fessed up and the game of choice is kind of fool proof! Even for our bunch. Its a game of comparisons where each player gets a turn being a judge and lays down a card with an adjective on it. All of the other players then lay down one of their seven noun cards that they feel best describes the card on the table. The judge then picks the word they they personally feel fits best with the card on the table. Its a hilarious game b/c the winning card is subject to the judges objective opinion. Apparently Helen Keller is a fake according to the first card play lol :) We all had a great time.Later that night Chris took the boys and I to see New Moon. I was getting on every ones nerves with my talk of Edwards swagger. They thought he was pale and gross and the ones that actually admitted liking the movie were team Jaboc all the way. Dustin looked a little miserable during the two hours of vampire romance or at least he wanted us to think he was :) After the movie we called it a night and headed home for ...you guessed it yummo leftovers!Friday was pretty non eventful. Chris had to work all day and I stayed home with our guests. I had several fun suggestions for how we could spend our day. Just a few of the things on the list were going shopping with me, going to a bookstore to read, watching me get my nails done, playing more board games. I know you didnt see this coming put I totally got shot down. LOL So we opted to relax at the house so the boys could get caught up on football and I cuddled with the super baby. After hours on end of this we took a drive to go see Chris bear at work.Saturday Poppa, Chris, Jack(Poppa friend and church member), and the boys were supposed to have some Alabama style fun down at the local shooting range. I was told to stay home by Chris and Poppa b/c this was such a manly sort of outing lol whateva..They were all just petrified of my mad busting caps skillz. So they left me :( Unfortunately after they made the long drive and started unloading their guns they were ran off by a psyco park ranger who is sure to receive employee of the year for his bravery in saving the day from the armed and dangerous boys with no fishing license which apparently you need to shoot. So he shewed them away. Sounds like they still had a southern experience to me! We finished up the day and night with homade cheese dips, more board games, and a late night run to Sonic. Geez I beat Brandon, Dustin, and Nick think all we do here is eat! When we got back the boys had to start packing up b/c they had to be on the road at 5 am. I was going to try to get up with Chris to wish them a safe trip but I didnt make it. So I just send a be safe text. Very 21st century lol!Sunday we slept in and unfortunately didnt make it for church. After we recuperated I helped Mom put up our Christmas tree. We got through it without a single cuss word and I must say it looked beautiful. I was eager to see Kal-el's reaction to his first Christmas tree but he was a little dismissive of all of our efforts and seemed more interested in his little toys.My most fond memory of this Thanksgiving is my family. We always hold hands and form a circle for our Thanksgiving prayer before we eat. This year I thought of what I was so grateful for in each person. There's my grandfather Poppa standing there so proud the most loving, good man of earth. My inspiration. The backbone of our family holding Nannies hand who has shown unwavering love for me since the time I was born and who is so tender and kind in all her ways. She holds Mothers hand. A hand that I see is now filled with so much strength and perseverence. I'm thankful that she has always been my number one supporter and biggest fan, she believed in me when no one else did. I love her so much.I couldnt of hand picked a more more perfect mother for me. I hold Chris's hand. Its a hand I know well b/c it cradles mine so often. Easily twice the size of mine. My soul mate and my best friend. I'm thankful for his love and support and his ability to understand me which is not always easy to do .You have my heart Chris Bear. Then there is Aunt Shane. I have always admired her kindness and faith. She is such a fine example of a believer. She is so strong in what she belives but she always leads by example. I'm a grateful to her for so many things. She is always there for me if need to talk and was so helpful during my preganncy. Uncle Raymond holds her hand. Its really hard to belive this he hasnt been in our family since day one. Raymond is a good man and is always so helpful and willing to lend an ear or give good advice. I am very very thankful for his since of humor. Even though I think we are on a lonely island with loving puns! Zach is my first cousin who is really the closest thing that I have to a brother. I am thankful for his intelligence and his abiltiy to have deep conversions with me when everyone else heres crickets chirping lol. I adnore his synical since of humor. Zach holds Leahs hand. They have been together for some time now and here recently got married. She too seems like she has always been with us. I thankful for her soft spoken insight and endearing childlike qualities. Shes a precious girl. Aunt Vicki is part of the cirlce I have always been grateful for creavtive and outgoing qualities. She is so much fun and I have so many fond memories of her from my childhood. She stands beside Harrold is the new member of family and I am grateful that he and Aunt Vicki have found what they were looking for in each other. And finally the special treat this year was having Chris's bothers there to share with us. I already consider them family. I grateful for the extra life and exuberance they breathed into this special time of year. They are so much fun and they each have their own amazing qualities. Brandon can relate so well to people, Dustin is very true to himself , and Nick is fun loving and endearing. We had an amazing Thanksgiving!

Mama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He said it, He said it, he said it!!!!! My sweet baby Kal-el now says MAMA. I'm so proud! My heart just leaped for joy when I heard it. I feel like I've literally waited my entire life to hear those words come out of a little persons mouth. I cant put into words how happy that single word made me. He is the most precious gift from God and I feel so blessed to have him. There is NOTHING else on earth like the love of a child. I love you soooo much Thomas Kal-el Borquez. Your Mommy's superbaby :-)

The Borquez's love our weekends!

I almost hated to see this dreary Monday morning I had such a wonderful weekend with the family. Chris was off the entire weekend which rarely happens so we got to enjoy each others company for two days! Friday night we went to our friends Laura birthday party at Casa. Most of the fight crew attended....oh wait ...I dont think I've ever mentioned that my husband now does MMA training. I wont go into it too much b/c I intend to dedicate a separate post for this topic but I will say that I'm sooo proud of him. More to come on this....Ok back to the weekend...We had a wonderful night Friday and I of course comsumed entirely too much Mexican food! Saturday we were able to sleep in a little. Mimsy got up super early at 4:00 to attend the Alabama football game. Chris and I were up pretty early with little one but we were actually both happy to get our day started. Chris always carries Kal-el over first thing in the morning to see his GreatGrandparents Nannie and Poppa since they live next door to us. My work schedule is M-F 8-5 so I enjoy getting to be a part of this routine when the weekend rolls around. We decided that we would all go eat at a wonderful restaurant in Tennessee called the Cathfish Hotel. It literally takes my Grandmother FOREVER to get ready lol its ok Nannie :-) So while she was getting ready Chris and I took little man to Wal-Mart to get his baby food that he is constantly out of! I love the fact that he now fits in the bugee and we dont have to wag that dang car seat around anymore! By the time we got back Nannie and Poppa were ready for the road trip. Chris usually drives b/c he THINKS he is the best driver lol. By the time we arrived in Savannah we were ready to eat some serious catfish. We all ordered the AUCE catfish and we did just that ate all that we possibly could! The place is all kinds of wonderful they only thing that I didnt like is the teeny weeny size of their restrooms. Good grief it's barely enough room for one person to go must less a place to change a baby and when I reminisce about going down there 9 months preggo its mind blowing how I ever got out of that restroom once I went in! Needless to say going back to the car is the only option and as luck would have it we had two dirty diaper scares there in the restaurant. Or should I say one was a scare the second one was just scarey being how it was the real deal and all. After our late lunch we decided that a little shopping was in order. Nannie and I couldn't contain our excitement. The boys looked less than thrilled. Sweet supa didnt mind he just slept. Lucilky there is only one little shopping area in the small town. Well that didnt keep Nannie and I from leaving the sleeping boyS in the car for an hour. Finally we gave up the fight and headed home. My precious husband decided that I would drive b/c I was the better driver lol he says it was b/c he was so tired but whatever we know the real reason my superb skillz haha. We were all pretty tired as we pulled in the driveway. Chris retired to the computer to watch the much anticipated Oregon game on the computer b/c for some reason this particular game wasn't on any of our stations. Kal-el and I spent time changing channels b/w some random lifetime movie and Troy. Very nice relaxing night.
Sunday morning came bright and early and it was time to get ready for church! Everything actually went smoothly and we even arrived early! Woo Hoo :-) Service was wonderful. The sermon was geared towards what we were Thankful for with the approaching holiday of Thanksgiving and as I looked around at my family I realised just how thankful and grateful I am to have them and their love! After church we grabbed a quick bite to eat being extra careful not to over do it b/c our Thanksgiving dinner at the church started at 04:30. We had just a couple of hours to relax before church started. So relax we did. The supper at church was wonderful. I enjoyed letting Kal-el sample several of the home made desserts saying he enjoyed that would be an understatement. He also was able to have his usual favorite sweet potatoes! They always manage to find him! Our church family is made up of some of the most sweet open hearted people I've ever had the pleasure of loving. Sweet, good people. Several church members sang specials after the supper. We wheeled Kal-el in his stroller to listen he passed out loving on Mickey Mouse! Needless to say its the small things that make me so happy which in fact are the not so small things after all. I feel so blessed to be able to spend time with my family and I look forward to Thanksgiving this year as it is Kal-el's first and he has a surprise in store his uncles from Oregon will be coming to visit!

Separation Anxiety

Just when the parents of super were basking in the delight of less wakeful nights and no bags under our eyes Kal-el decides that his sleep patterns will revert back to that of a NEWBORN. Nope not kidding. The love of our lives has decided that waking up oh say every three hours is a good idea he didnt bother to get our views on this nor does he care LOL. It started out a little over a week ago and at first we both assumed it was teething. The following is an example of our nightly routine.
09:00 pm Kal-el goes down "for the night" ...sometimes with a fight sometimes just snuggles to sleep in my arms
11:00pm Screams from crib down the hallway...Either Chris or myself drag ourselves out of bed and try to gently pat his back and soothe him back to sleep. ..put his paci back in his little mouth etc...sometimes he is inconsolable...if thats the case on any given night we carry him back to our bed for a bottle and some teething tablets...he usually falls asleep while we hold him then we sneak him back in his nursery to his crib...
03:00 am Repeat above
04:15 am Repeat half of above
06:20 Curse repeat all of above again
08:00 Sweet baby boy is officially up for the day!
As you can see this can get pretty exhausting for parents!
I soon realised that the teething tablets and all the other teething tricks were doing absolutely NOTHING to rid any of us of our wakeful nights. I checked his gums and all three teeth were all the way through the gums and I couldnt feel any new ones then after some research it hit me. Hello!? was I not paying attention in my child developmental psychology classes? Our little guy has figured out object permanence but still has no concept of time and is therefore having SEPARATION ANXIETY. For babies this means they remember a parents face when they are gone and understand that they still exist but have no understanding if the parent will return or not. Bless his little heart all the clues were right there. Sometimes he would even fall asleep as soon as we picked him up, other times he would just lie there in the bed with us and talk "bababab dadada bababa" and motorboat. He just missed us :( He's teeth werent in pain his little heart was! Separation anxiety passes in a month or two so we will not be using the Ferber/ "cry it out" method. I have done extensive research on this and I consider myself a very educated parent and I just find the method so UNNECESSARY. Plus several studies indicate that other more gentle tactics are equally effective. We moved Kal-el's pack n play in our bedroom last night and he only woke up once. He stood up and peeked over his pen and saw that Mommy and Daddy were right there in the bed beside him and he layed back down and was off to sleep. Dont worry Kal-el we know that you will soon be right back in your big boy crib but in the mean time we wont make you grow up too fast. Looks like Chris and I will need to do our spending time together between the hours of 09:00 and 11:30 lol

Pulling up and dadadada.

Ok so I'm going a little post crazy here lately but it seems like there is just so much happening all at once. I walked into Kal-el's nursery early this morning and there he was ...STANDING! My little man had pulled up and was holding on to the railing of his crib! How exciting :) This of course means that he will soon be walking. He's doing several things pretty early which I find very exciting and very encouraging for my poor back and arms esp if baby boy decides he wants to walk early! I cant wait to see what he weighs at his next doctors appointment. He is also" talking" alot more and trying different combs on us. Yep he's getting pretty fancy with it lol. The other night he was hyper and in rare form I had him on my lap jumping up and down nonstop. The whole time he was babbling at 100 miles per hour. I thought hmm this will be a great time to work on him saying Mama. He got quiet and stared at me like I was a crazy lady as I proceeded to say "mamamamamamamama". He then laughed out loud, got really quiet and then opened his little mouth to speak. Only the words that came out were not exactly music to my ears "DADADADA"...followed by laughs. Umm not funny are you serious?! Say Mommy! Mamama. My husband has obviously been working this with superbaby during the day...I've got some catching up to do. Thats my goal this week! Wish me luck :)

Parking Places!

Sweet baby boy now has two bottom toothies! They came in at almost the same time. Ever since Kal-el was a newborn when he would cry I would look at his little gums and say to him. It's ok because your Mommy's little gummy bear. Like all Mothers I come up with silly phrases and songs for my little one. My favorite references are about him teething. I refer to his little mouth as the parking deck and his little bitty gums are parking places in that deck and one day soon shiny white cars(his teeth) will occupy those parking places and then one day when they are ready to leave they will have to pay him a fee to leave the deck( tooth fairy)! Very far out analogy I know. But I have so much fun with it! Chris thinks its silly to but even he cant help but laugh. I have a feeling that he is now working on getting one of the top teeth in as well being how Chris and I didnt get very much sleep at all the later part of last week. His sleep schedule was like a newborn again it was a little rough but I'm sure equally hard on our little guy. Must be a big white escalade trying to double park..LOL Ok I'll stop...Thankfully things are back to normal this week and Kal-el seems to be feeling great again and luckily these new teeth have been great at assisting superbaby in chewing his rice treats and finger foods. He wasted no time putting them to work. More cars to come..............!

The Moose!

So this year was little mans very first Halloween. I tried to think of a unique and clever costume since early September. Chris and I originally thought about letting him go as Superman since he IS superbaby but we decided to wait til he's a little older and can enjoy the idea of being a super hero. I also debated a Michael Jackson costume for him but decided that you really couldnt tell what it was supposed to be on a baby his age. Then of course there is my absolute fascination with crustaceans and crabs so naturally I wanted him to be a little crabby...haha a little crappy get it? ok anyway...But in the end I choose a simple yet adorable random yet precious moose costume for him while Mom and I were shopping at the baby room. It wasnt to much of a fuss to get on my rambunctious baby boy which was a definite plus.
We mostly took it easy on Halloween. We took baby K by to see his daddy at work dressed as the moose. One of Chris's coworkers sweet baby boy was there also. He was dressed as a little monkey with banana and all. Too cute! I got a couple of pictures of them together. They looked a little miserable stuffed in there suits and being subjected to picture taking and random cheek pinches but who could resist? Kal-el will get to enjoying doing this with his own kids one day. After the visit with Daddy we did a little shopping with Mimsy. We take Kal-el's stroller around everywhere now since he has completely outgrown his carrier. He loves it! Matter of fact he loves anything that makes him feel a little more grown.
Since Kal-el is still a little young for treat or treat and it was awfully chilly outside we all stayed home and watched the Oregon game and snacked on Halloween cookies! Chirs and I cuddled up on the sofa bed downstairs to sleep. Awww how romantic and cozy you say? Umm no Chris was standing guard for the perpetrators that have randomly knocked down our mailbox on past Halloweens but thankfully they never showed up. Maybe my wonderful husband can find another use for the 2x4 with nails super clued to it LOL. Happy Halloween!
