Happy Valentine's Day From The Borquez Family xoxo

Valentine's Day is such a fun holiday. Chris is the love of my life everyday so it's not that much of a different day for us. We do light, sweet, sentimental gifts and heart felt cards but nothing over the top..we usually save anything more extravagant for anniversarys  but I love all the fun theme'y' stuff for Kal-el's age. I try to make every holiday special for him while he's small because I want him to look back and have fun memories. Last night we exchanged our gifts and then had a fun little photo session. I have one traditional gift that I get Chris every year..its a certain kind of boxer with a certain candy on it. Finding a different pair every year is getting more challenging after 6 years of doing this. But its so fun/funny and it's our little inside joke based on a song I made up. :) Chris got me a few new Agatha Christie books to complete my collection. I think I have all of hers now yay! We also got our new phones as an early Valentine's day gift and I must say I've finally gotten used to mine and love it! As for Super he loaded up from the family and considering Mickey and Handy Manny toys made their way to our house he was one happy little boy on heart day! Logan even got to join in on the fun..even if he didn't know it! Happy Valentine's Day! XOXO

Baby Shower Fun!

No not for me! Although it kinda of would seem that way considering the mother to be, Christina Johnson, had sweet baby Elijah earlier in the week and I was the only obviously pregnant woman in attendance! My good friend Beth was the host of the shower. She and her mom did an amazing job with everything.  Beth, Christina, and I were very good friends in our high school years.  Beth and I are still very close and have kept in touch but I hadn't seen or talked to Christina in quite a while so it was such a treat to share this day wih her!
Beth came over to our house earlier in the day to bring Kal-el his Christmas gift. She and her hubby live in Huntsville so we don't see each other nearly as often as we'd like. If you don't believe it was worth the wait check out the picture below of Super's face when he saw his Mickey Mouse Club House bookset! Complete joy! :) Thanks Beth!
After we visited for a little while we decided to drive over to Christina's house to see baby Elijah. Chris had some local fights to attend and needed to be present to corner some fighters. Mimsy watched Super for us. I really didn't think he needed to be around a newborn with a recent head cold . I got some awesome, relaxing girl time in with Beth.  Before Chris left he got my new phone set up for me. I went from a standard flip phone to a really snazzy smart phone and I begged him not to do the swich over yet in case the phone was "too complicated" to use in case of an emergency. He informed me that he thought I could handle it. lol Granny here can be a little resistant to new technology at times. I love it now and am almost a pro a whole two days later. Beth and I both had planned on taking a few pictures with Elijah but the sweet little fellow was sound asleep during our visit. We did a little catching up with Christina and her mom then made our way over to the church to wait for the guests to arrive. Once the shower was under way we were finally able to sit down and enjoy each other's company. I am so happy for Christina I know that she is going to be a great mom. We will have to set up playdates for the boys in the future!

A great laugh prompted by a wonderfully inapproiate comment by the new mommy!

Scary...Scary...Bath Mats??

You simply can not be a child of mine and be phobia free! lol :) I have good news and neurotic news to report...ah the good news is Super is no longer afraid of the Backyardigans! He will actually sit and watch them some days with a sweet little smile on his face. But alas we have acquired a brand new fear.
It all started with sweet, concerned family being afraid that I would fall giving Kal-el our nightly baths. With Chris being on the road I usually just put Kal-el in the water with me. He adores baths just like his mommy. He's my little boy diva and will come up to me and ask for a "bub baf" (bubble bath) no less than twice a day. I would take 4 a day myself if I could so I don't mind one bit HOWEVER my family keeps reminding me that even though I can't stand bath mats I probably should be using them for safety purposes at least while I'm pregnant. I keep saying I'll get one if I ever find one I can stand the sight of but I've never gotten around to purchasing one. Well, that didn't stop Nannie and Poppa from rounding me one up lol! Niice. I decided to go ahead and play it safe and try it out for our next bath. I showed it to Kal-el and like me, he seemed less than thrilled. I ran our water and stepped on the mat to make sure the lovely suction cups were sticking like they should. I caught Super's expression out of the corner of my eye and he looked a little upset. I got in and motioned for him. He wouldn't budge. I put loads of bubbles in along with his favorite bath toys. Still nothing. At this point I grow a little impatient and lifted him into the bath. This was NOT cool with him. He leapt up from the bath  into my arms as soon as his bottom touched the bath mat. He wrapped himself around me and clung on for dear life. He was hanging on so tightly I didn't even have to hold him. I finally realized that my weird, precious child was terrified of the BATH MAT. Are you kidding me! Our baby boy is fearless about everything and of all things to find fear..a bath mat? I felt bad but I laughed til I cried. He never cried he just refused to look in the general direction of the bath mat and he certainly wasn't getting in the water with IT  in there. I smiled to myself as I peeled it from the tub. He actually clapped and then gleefully hopped in the water. We are so much alike. Looks like we'll have to put mats off a little longer and just be extra careful. I'm still not sure Nannie believed me when I told her we couldn't use the bath mat after all...Kal-el is scared of it! :)

2 Year Picture Outfit Choices!

It is so so hard for me to believe that my little baby will be TWO next month.  This time of year is a big deal to me. Not only do I work diligently at getting Kal-el's birthday party planned I also have to set up a date and organize outfits for his two year pictures. If you are a mommy of little boys you can certainly feel my pain when it comes to the endless search to find adorable, unique outfits. It seems to be quite the rare find to locate an outfit thats not completely generic in apperance and if you happen to find something that fits the bill you can almost guarantee that every other little boy you see will be sporting it for their upcoming event as well. Thats the case unless of course you want to put your little one in fru fru monogramed attire, and dress them like little 80 year old men which is also everywhere you turn..gag. I just can't do that to my sons lol :) Its just so hard to find dress up attire thats not "Shoals area" stuffy and bland..and I hate that because I LOVE fashion. I was thrilled when Gucci announced that they were developing a childrens line...lol although I'm not sure why ..not like ANY of it would be in my price range..well maybe some socks :) Anyway after a good deal of searching I think I've found a few items that will work just fine for Kal-el's pictures. I hope he agrees ..he loves dressing up and the more hats/sunglasses I can throw his way the happier he is to show off. Between Chris and myself I have NO clue where he gets this from lol ;)
Here's little man's outfit for his One year pictures last year..he was still so young that the outfit kind of wore him....which I think is actually kind of precious lol :)

Now on to this year.........

Introducing McCoy!

Let me start off by saying that the 10  hour round trip to get our new fur kid this past Sunday was the most awesome, hilarous road trip I've ever been on in my entire life! This is largely due to the fact that Zach and Lea made the trip with us. We all laughed til it hurt. I seriously wish I had it all on video. We had alot of time to enjoy each other's company being that our new pup was all the way in Dixon, Kentucky and we took advantage of every minute of it. There is no way that I could began to describe some of our inside jokes but I've decided that I'm going to post Zach's pictures of various random road signs and their captions b/c he's hilarous and there too great not to! Now..a little about our puppy quest........
Chris and I made the decision to get another puppy just this past week. Nothing could ever replace Tuggs, which is the main reason we did not want another Newfoundland..it was just too soon. However, the house started to seem lonely and Maxx and Ginger were visably down and mopping around. It was heartbreaking for all of us so we decided to begin our search for another fur baby. We love large, gentle breeds because they are the perfect fit for our family ..Super tends to be a little on the ruff side and a huge gentle giant tends to have the temperment to not only handle it well but they have a love for children and tend to be protective over smaller things. Originally we wanted a pure bred Saint Bernard. We anticipated the price tag too be a little steep but we never took into account how difficult it would be to find  new puppies anywhere remotely near our location. There are always waiting lists but some of them would have new litters arriving the same time as Logan. Newborn and new puppy..exact same time? No thanks! lol  We then started discussing how pure blood lines can contribute to health problems and we talked about how great it would be if we could find a great mix breed of two awesome large breeds. Then the next day what did Chris Bear find?..a beautiful liter of puppies..Saint Bernard/ Mastiff mix ..parents were pure bred AKC but they just happend to end up in the same room together one evening..*Let's Get It On** lol  The puppies were 5 weeks old and ready to go. It couldn't of been any more perfect. We expected a bit of a wait before bringing a new puppy home thats why we went ahead and starting looking but we didnt want to pass these guys up. The only draw back was that it was going to be a 5 hour drive one way to Kentucky. We knew immediately who we wanted to be our roadtrip buddies....Zach and Lea!!! Absolutely no regrets there! :) They even introduced us to some wonderful Thai food..yummy!
Lastly, coming up with a name for the new fur kid was the easiest quest ever. Well lets see, its a male, it's in the Borquez house..umm..you guessed it...a superhero name lol! Beast from X-men immediately came to mind because of the sheer size of this big baby. So that's his name....Dr. Henry Hank McCoy better known as "Beast" ..we're calling him McCoy!
Sweet boy!
This baby is already 15lbs at just 5 1/2 weeks
Super is going to be very jealous!
