Its still hard for me to believe this is actually happening. Letting go a little is not easy. Its a million times harder when you have a little one with special needs. Back when we visited Vanderbilt for Logan's evaluation we were told by the wonderful doctors there that it was imperative that Logan be in a structured environment with a focus on education to get him ready for formal school. We knew this would be a challenge almost right away. For starters when we started calling around to various day cares we were told he had to be potty trained. He was a late on this because of his delays. I had no idea in a matter of weeks after those phone calls he would be where he needed to be. Still so proud of him. Among the places that would accept him there were other issues. Mainly they were run strictly like a daycare. There was very little focus on education. I also did not really want a church based program in the slightest. His dr made a point to tell us that if the environment was not conducive to learning that his rapid progression would stop. He said he was coming along wonderfully at home so we certainly didnt want to back peddle. In other words we had to find the magic unicorn of preschools. Not an easy task with the limited options in our area!
Logan started taking speech two days a week with Florence City special education back last year. They have a preschool there as well. Its called Head Start. Since his speech services are in that same building we knew it would be a very familiar place and an easier adjustment for him. Sometimes changes can be hard for him. I knew it was a federal program so there were education requirements for the teachers. The program serves lots of low income families so I was told we had a slim to none chance of getting in. Every year they do accept a few students that simply need help because of their special needs. Roughly 10% of kids with special needs above the income bracket are allowed to attend because of having an IEP and already receiving services in the building. We filled out the forms and never thought anything else about it and assumed he wouldnt get in even though it was really our last option. When we received his paper work in mail we were so happy there was an option for him....well not really but doctors orders and I wanted to give Logan every advantage possible.
Fast forward to Tuesday. Today is his second full day of school and Im thrilled to report..so far so good. He seems to really enjoy it and he loves the daily interaction with other children. I had some food concerns because they serve hot dogs and some other notable choke hazards. I was told that bc they are required to provide lunches to kids of low income families that I would not be allowed to bring food from home for him. I can see where it would be unfair. I was able to get a doctors note stating what he could not have and I feel so much better about it now :) Yesterday he told me he had crickets for lunch. When I walked him in today I discovered it was croissants lol!! Every day when we pick him up with peek through the door first. Yesterday the teacher was reading to all the children in a circle...I didnt see Logan among the group so I stuck my head in and there he was...sitting on a couch reading his own book very loudly and grinning. She didnt seem to mind. :) He is his own person and he definitely marches to the beat of his own drum. Come on 2:00 oclock. Ready to get my wolfie!

Kal-El's First Day of First Grade!
Summer is officially over and school is back in session. It went by waay too fast and really crept up on the Borquez house! Its not easy for me to turn my kids over for half a day every five days a week. Kal loves school though so it makes it so much easier on me! Last year we had an amazing first year of school. I have no doubt that is because we had an amazing teacher! I know that we will both miss Mrs. Davis terribly but I also know that first grade we be a wonderful year with brand new memories to cherish. Yesterday Kal-El was a bit worried about a new teacher, new class mates, and a new grade. All of that changed when he received a letter from his new teacher Mrs. Scott. It made his day and he smiled as he read it. I've heard really nice things about her and I'm so happy she is the teacher we ended up with. Her classroom is right next door to Kal's classroom from last year so everything will be familiar. I can't wait to hear how his day went when I pick him up! Bring on first grade adventures!!!
**After school** Chris and I picked Kal up and he told us he had an awesome day. His friend Brodie came home with us and we are all getting ready to head to football practice! First day of 1st grade in the books.

Logan's Big Accomplishment!
I am so proud of Logan. He is now 100% potty trained!!! We transitioned immediately to underwear and never looked back. I knew when he was ready and it took about a week to get down. I'm not a fan of starting the process early or before a child is ready. Logan was a bit later anyway due to his communication delays but I knew when his speech started to develop at rapid pace and his progression started to catch up that it would be a matter of time. I think he is more proud than even I am. He high fives me every time he goes by himself. He has the best attitude in the world and works so hard. The little things have been a really big deal for us and we celebrate every achievement he makes. Woo hoo for no more diapers!!!

Piano Lessons
That title is perhaps misleading because we haven't had a single lesson yet but we did score a really awesome piano for a steal! Chris has used it more than Kal at this point but hopefully we can start lessons sooner than later. Chris has played almost every rap song known as well the jurassic park song over.....and over.....and over. :)
Super Vision
Last week I started making a few routine back to school appointments for the boys. At the top of my list was an eye exam for Kal. I honestly didn't think he had any issues with vision but sometimes he will stand a little close to the tv. At first I assumed that he nor Logan were just never still long enough to actually sit down to watch TV but it still bugged me a bit so I got it checked out. Glad we did. Super is near sighted. He hated having his eyes dilated and was not a happy camper about the idea of glasses until he saw a green pair and literally fell in love with them. We bought them the same day and he wears them proudly. He looks so handsome in them and I have never seen him so thankful for something. It was sweet and pitiful at the same time ♡ He was excited about seeing red lights better. Made me cry ♡ I also have no clue how he was hitting the baseball this last season half blind but I'm guessing he will be a beast this next year when he can actually see the ball lol. He gave no other clues that his vision wasn't perfect other than sometimes standing up by the tv so I strongly recommend annual eye exams...I don't think the school ones cut it. We joke that people won't know he's superman now lol. Little Clark ♡ I have always had sort of a fondness for glasses and when he was upset about them I reminded him that we chose to wear glasses for his magazine cover shot when he didn't even need them....bc they are cool. I promised him if he ever gets uncomfortable I'll buy a pair of my own with prescription free lenses and rock those bad boys Dr. Quinzel style :) I don't think we'll have any issues though. He's already picked out a blue sports set for football to match his uniform. ♡
Art Classes
I wanted Kal-El to have something to occupy his time for the summer before sports and school started back up. He loves art so we decided that art class at Hobby Lobby would be a great fit. He's had about 6 classes so far and really loves it! I get to walk around the store for an hour while he paints. That normally would be pretty dangerous for me but so far I've been in between party themes so no damage. I'm in full swing with Ivy now however so that's probably about to change lol! I'm so proud of Super's work. I have three pieces already handing and I wouldn't mind filling the walls full. Very proud of my little artist. ♡
Football Camp!
It's that time of year again! Kal-El had football camp this week to close out the summer. He's so excited and so are we. It's by far his favorite sport and one he excels at bc he really puts his heart in it. We got fitted for uniforms yesterday and he's built just like a little football player ♡ I'm really excited that we don't have white pants this year also lol! I hope it's a great season...we have wonderful coaches and little players. Go warriors!
