Kal-el and Carter

Kal-el has reached the age now were he has a favorite toy! I'm delighted at his choice for several reasons. First of all we have lots of back ups for Carter the lion. Back when Mom was throwing my baby shower I didn't tell anyone I was registered for anything. I've just always felt a little weird about the idea of signing up for your own gifts I know that everyone does that now and its considered the norm but I've just never liked it. I did however at least answer questions regarding the nursery if anyone asked me. So most everyone knew his nursery was being done in a jungle theme. We received three or four of the same adorable plush lions. I was happy about this from the start knowing how important a spare can be when raising little ones! That and the fact that it matched his nursery perfectly! Kal-el absoultely loves Carter the lion..named by me since his little tag says made by Carter. I always tell him to "kiss Carter". He grabs his face, squeals in delight and starts chatting Carter up. We are on Carter #2 at this point and I'm so happy to have #3 and #4 safely put up for hard times! I bet I know a little lion that ends up on a little boy's first Birthday cake!

This time last year...Getting our first baby's nursery ready!

A year ago around this time we were preparing Kal-el's nursery for his big arrival. This period of time holds such a special place in my heart b/c we all pulled together and contributed something different to the nursery. We turned my old bedroom into the nursery. I remember like it was yesterday the day that we started working on it. Aunt Vicki and Harold came over and helped us peel the victorian wallpaper that I grew up with off the walls in preperation for painting. Poppa and Chris completely redid the flooring replacing the old carpet with lovely dark wood floors. They worked so hard and I'm sure there were injurys I don't even know about. Mom was sooo much help she has an absolutely AMAZING  talent for drawing and painting so I couldnt wait to turn her loose with a brush so she could work her magic on the walls. I decided early on that if I were to have a little boy that I would do his room in a jungle theme. Mom and I put our heads together and found some beautiful ideas for a jungle themed nursery. I found the perfect bedding online. The little animals were absolutely perfect. Mom used them as a model for some of the mural she painted. She even incorporated an extra special personalized suprise on one of the little characters. We didnt let Chris see it until it was finished b/c Chris is the one who picked the name Kal-el which if you don't know by now is Supermans real name.  Nannie and Poppa found us an absoultely beautiful crib and got it for my baby shower. My Aunt Shane came across an incredible treasure of a dressor at an antique store across from where she worked at the time. It needed some work she told me but it was an otherwise very nice piece. I had Chris go pick it up. He got to work and began sanding it. I even trusted him to paint it in the right colors and did such a wonderful job. I remember wearing masks over my face while I helped paint even though I was assured the paint smell was non toxic. A mom in the making already. I must say that I am ever so happy with how his room turned out. Not only do I think that hard work and alot of talent went into it but the best part is how much LOVE from everyone went into it, the fact that it turned out so awesome is just an added bonus. Now if we can only get him to actually sleep in there a little more often!

Kal-el's First Snow!

Well we didnt get alot but it still counts! I love snow. I only wish we had of had a white Christmas this year. Super was still too young to really enjoy it and it was definitely too cold to have him play in it but I do hope we continue to get snow through out his childhood years. I really want him to grow up knowing what its like to build a snowman!

Lunches with Super

My favorite lunches...are the ones where I get to see my favorite little man in the whole wide world, my wonderful husband, and my precious grandparents! Chris and I have different work schedules so he is with Kal-el during the mornings and heads off to work in the evenings...its vice versa for me. It is always such a special treat when they meet me for lunch since I dont have time to drive all the way home from my job. We have done this a few times a month ever since I went back to work when Super was almost 9 weeks old. Now he is 9 months old going on 10 and I'm so happy to say that we still have are bi monthly (sometimes more) lunches. Today we went to our local buffet. This works out great for Kal-el b/c he is so over baby food at this point and has a varity of foods to choose from. It worked equally well for me b/c I'm once again doing a low carb diet (shoot me lol). Among the favorites Super fed himself today was crab meat, meat loaf, cream potatoes, shredded cheese, chicken, and a roll. Of course he only has a sampling or two from each food. He makes a pretty good size mess as we watch on and enjoys himself throughly the entire meal. Another trait he gets from his Mommy. Each time I get my Super baby fix at lunch it makes that particular day just a little more special!

Ting Ting, Buddin-Buddin!

I've always overheard the funny, endearing, and sometimes goofy nicknames that mothers provide to their poor unsuspecting offspring. I just never thought I'd be one of them. As you know I refer to Kal-el as "Super" quite often since Kal-el IS Supermans real name so this seemed witty and not obnioxous. Well this has all changed recently. Kal-el has several new eye rolling names but as his Mommy if you laugh at them I will kick you with my stileto :) It would seem that in the Borquez house we have a real problem staying away from superheros. Mimsy invented this new nickname and it has really stuck. Kal-el has a hard figurine toy that he plays with. We found it at Nannie's house so I'm thinking it must of been Zach's. Like I said its hard and more like a 7 year olds toy but Kal-el loves it so I allow him supervised visits with it. Its a figurine of The Thing from Fantastic Four. Kal-el is so robust and ALL boy so we refer to The Thing as his "baby". Its so sweet makes me laugh! Mimsy playfully started calling Kal-el "Ting Ting" for The Thing. When he is not being lovingly called a big orange rock creature from Marvel comics I have yet another name for my sweet boy. Buddin -Buddin. You know, the sound that a car makes. I call him this because he is always on the move and he is sooo fond of the car that Poppa got him. He is ALWAYS pulling up on it! We can hardly keep up with him. I expect one of my next bloggs to be about his first step he is SO close to offically walking and he is so brave it sometimes scares me! He has so much heart. He is the perfect match for Chris and I! We love you always Ting Ting Buddin Buddin Hulk Super Munckin TallyW! :-)

The Super Tree

Back months ago when Super was floating and all warm in my tummy my grandfather got a brochure in the mail for a free tree from a place he does alot of business with. We decided that this would be a great idea to plant in honor of our little bundle of joys birth. We had several choices of trees . We picked one that we knew would grow up to be a beautiful tree and could prosper well in our area. When we ordered the tree we knew it wouldnt arrive in time for Kal-els birth so we had just planned to put in in the ground on the day it arrived. As months rolled by I forgot all about the tree, being busy with raising a new baby and all. Kal-el's tree couldnt of picked a better time to arrive. We planted his tree on New Years Day and we picked a very special place to plant the tree. We put in right in the middle of our property line and Nannie and Poppa's. What a wonderful way to start off the new year. I can't wait to watch my baby boy and his baby tree grow big and strong!

New Years Eve...waveing bye-bye 2009!

As 2009 nears an end I reflect on what this year has brought and taught me as well as my family. I'm not really big on New Years resolutions. I kind of subscribe to the belief system that if you know you need to change something or make it better why not live in the present and do it now since none of us ever really know if the new year will make it or better yet if WE will make it to the new year. Instead I like to reflect on the year that is closing, the lessons learned and the memories made. This past year has definitely been one of the best years of my life. It will always and forever be the year of mommyhood for me. The first chapter in my book as a mommy so it will always hold a truly special place in my heart. The one thing that I always want to keep in the forefront of all I do whether its July or January is to be grateful and never take any of my many blessings for granted. Each year as the new year rolls around my family tries to get together to "enjoy" some hawg jaw and black eyed peas its a southern tradition that too be quite frank makes me cringe just a little...well that word hawg jaw does anyway...this year we didnt really make any plans to celebrate this way ..some of our family members were a little under the weather. I decided that it would be a neat idea to create some Borquez family traditions of our own. I was researching how different people, places, cultures etc celebrated the arrival of the upcoming year and I ran across one that I thought was marvalous...Donuts! Woo hoo tradition in the making. It symbolic in the same way that a ring is in the since thats its a continuation, a never ending circle not to mention the fact thats its super yummy! So what did we do? Well our little family of three along with two of our good friends hit up the local Krispy Kreme. Kal-el had a great time and I think it might just be a great way to continue starting each new year. I cant wait to see what 2010 brings. God Bless and Happy 2010!
