My Family Necklace has arrived!

The UPS/Fed Ex/USPS trucks have been making an apperance almost daily to our home over the past 2 weeks mainly delivering goodies from Etsy for Kal-el's upcoming party tomorrow. I had almost forgotten about the necklace I had made with my familys names and birthstones engraved in it. When the truck pulled up I expected another box full of Mickey Mouse something-or-anothers. It wasn't until I had to sign for it that I had a small hunch it might just be my beloved necklace. I was over the moon to when I opened the little package and there it was. The four of us to wear around my neck close to my heart forever. I don't change up jewlery much. I like to find pieces that mean something and never part with them. I'm not sure this one will ever come off...unless of course we decide to add one more to the Borquez brood ;)

Post Birthday Boo Boo!

Ouch! Super may of learned the hard way that he can't fly :( My poor baby took a spill today over at Nannie and Poppa's and has a nice little bump over his eye to show for it. He looks just like a little boxer. I know he's a boy and these kind of things will happen but it still reeks havoc on my Mommy nerves. Nannie and Poppa do an excellent job watching him while I work part time but Kal-el is a handful and A LOT of boy so I may look into stopping work a month or so early so it will make things easier on everyone(since I plan on staying home anyway after baby #2). I'm so grateful we just have a swollen eye and it wasn't worse! The swelling has gone down a good bit but now we are left with a lovely shade of blue eyeshadow aka a black eye. Hopefully he's had enough fun for one day and want make any more attempts to "fly" off the beds!

Happy 2nd Birthday Kal-el!

I can not believe our baby is officially TWO today. We are celebrating with the big party on Tuesday. I look forward to it so much and I'm still hopeful that Chris will be here with us and not riding on the "choo choo" as Super says. I went ahead and had a little simple cake made for here at home so Kal-el could enjoy some yummy cake on the actual day of his birth! :) We plan on just relaxing and taking it easy today. We may go to the park for a little while. Aunt Sandra's gift to Kal-el arrived yesterday so he may get to open one present today. I'm saving his gifts from Chris and I until he gets home and we can open them together. Well the rest of his gifts ...Chris and I caved last week and put his little jungle gym together in the middle of the living room. Kal-el had a blast in it! I've been asking Super for a solid month "How old are you going to be?" He loved it at first and he would hold his two little fingers up( crossed, so cute and funny looking) and proudly say "TWO!" He is now completely sick and tired of this question and gets upset with me when I even mention it and shakes his head while telling me "no no no." :) Moody Birthday man! We woke up to some awesome Superman quotes left by DaDa before he headed to work. I just had to share them.........

"Happy Birthday to my son Kal-El , You will travel far, my little Kal-El. But we will never leave you... even in the face of our deaths... the richness of our lives shall be yours. All that I have, all that I've learned, everything I feel... all this, and more I... I bequeath you, my son. You will carry me inside you... all the days of your life. You will make my strength your own, and see my life through your own eyes, as your life will be seen through mine. The son becomes the father, and the father, the son. This is all I ... all I can send you, Kal-El"
"Live as one of them, Kal-El, to discover where your strength and your power are needed. Always hold in your heart the pride of your special heritage. They can be a great people, Kal-El, they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you... my only son."
Lastly, here is a link to Kal-el's birth story from my post last year.  Kal-el's Birth Story
Happy 2nd Birthday Thomas Kal-El Borquez we love you with all our hearts!!! You are forever Mommy and Daddy's Superman!!!

Party Planning..Mickey Mouse Style

Kal-el's 2nd birthday is coming up and you know what that means for Mommy here...I'm in a themed party planning frenzy! Don't get me wrong my obsession comes from my love of doing it but its definitely ALOT of work..especially nearing the 3rd trimester of pregnancy. But no complaining here, the party must go on! :) There is always a method to my madness. I generally like to build around a "party in a box" not because I'm particularly crazy about the idea but simply because children this age are in love with popular characters that are found in these "kits." It's no secret who is Kal-el's mouse of choice...Mickey! :) Mickey is classic so its not very hard to find table wear and decor for this theme HOWEVER I love to spice things up a little...ok ok alot ..and make sure the parties I throw for Super have a personal touch. Building on the basics is not difficult it just takes a little time and a creative touch. This style kind of reminds me of the Semi Homemade on the food network except its ...like...semi custom party planning. That would be my show! Here's a little sneak peek at what I've got to work with so far...

Ok..the generic part first...(which I still think is completely adorable and happens to be the easy part!)
The table wear..plates, table covers etc.
These cupcake holders are HORRIBLE to put together and they are cardboard..BUT they look great in pics just don't count on using them more than once! Chris had to put them together for me..it was that bad!
Birthday Express has great character "standups"..this one on Mickey is 3.5 ft tall..great for pictures also! Not to mention all the wonderful..scene setters they offer to cover less than spectacular walls at rental facilities!

Now on to the custom stuff ..Let the fun begin
Normally I include Kal-el's picture in the invitations but this year we planned the date very last minute and on a random Tuesday
due to Chris's work schedule(fingers crossed he can make it) but I still wanted something cute for the theme that I could fill out by hand so if the date changed I wouldn't have to worry about wasted invites. I had these done by a seller on Etsy. I think they worked great!

I love the little food labels..just make them yourself and print them off on cardstock paper..super cute!
Personalized center piece :)
Whats a party without lots of various mylar balloons..its easy to make balloon bouquets your own by picking up different colors in your theme!
Don't ask I'm probably as crazy as this looks..this is to document for Kal-el how hard I work on his big day lol :)

I'm having three colors of cupcakes made..here are the fondant toppers I ordered for them to match their various colors...
I found a cute Mickey Mouse clubhouse cake picture on line and a lady my mom works with was kind enough to refer me to a new cake lady. Her cakes are just beautiful..can't wait to see the results!
Of course the stars will spell Kal-el :)
I decided that instead of a candy bar this year we would go with cookies.. I wanted to go with something more toddler friendly..I didn't  think it would be fair to Super to have him crying over candies he couldn't eat at  HIS party!
These will be made to say Kal-el and of course Mickey instead of Minnie
We or Mom lol will attempt to make these little short cookies ourselves..wish us luck!

My favorite part would be the little dishes we are going to serve the cookies on..Mickey Hands!
Finally these adorable cake pops will be the yummy little favors..
also toddler friendly..its cake on a stick!

                                                         Now for the decor.....
I love Pom poms..they are perfect to hand above the cake table..I was short on time so I ordered mine but I've heard they are pretty easy to make....
In Mickey colors :)
Along with a banner I had made to match the theme and colors....
And lastly my favorite..his main Birthday banner..its HUGE!
Thats it so far..I can't wait to see how it all comes together! :)
